Spanky Rump's Carnival Ride

Desperados

Desperados
up front
one desperate man
stands at a podium
in the schmancy ballroom
at a golf resort he owns
spewing obscene grafitti
of lies and bullshit
into the camera
at Americans
who are losing jobs
losing homes
facing eviction
getting sick
and dying
dying
dying
from a virus
he could have stopped
if only he’d been courageous enough
to be honest
with the people who elected him
but hey
the stock market’s rockin’

lined up in the back
a volunteer captive audience
of other desperate men
whoopin’ and hollerin’
cajolin’ and high fivin’
as if death and destruction
of a democracy and it’s people
is somehow winning
and fun
the scene plays
like a strip joint bachelor party
no rules or filters or boundaries
for the cocky rich country club clan
clapping flippers
for the third time hearing
MY BRAIN IS BIG
PERSON WOMAN MAN CAMERA TV
for free steak and lobster
and all they can drink
and a chance to be in the picture
men desperate for fame
and love and acceptance
like their unsavory hero
all willing to sacrifice their souls
just to pretend
they’re something more
than they really are
