Big Day
remember the time we rode the bus downtown
when we weren’t supposed to
and that sailor passed us on the sidewalk
and yelled WHAT ARE YOU LOOKIN’ AT
and started chasing us
and we ran for our lives into an alley
and he just stopped and fell out laughing and walked away
and we were twelve
and almost pooped our pants
but laughed all the way home
retelling every detail
and stepped off the bus
like we’d conquered the world
while the other kids were playing ball and swimming
yeah it was a big day
